This past weekend’s annual gathering of music lovers at Rock The Garden 2012 continued to reinforce the pure strength of the Twin Cities’ music community. Hosted by the Walker Art Center and 89.3 The Current, this year’s event drew over 10,000 people who bought tickets so quickly last April, and produced a sell-out in just over an hour. A vast majority of these tickets were snagged by Walker and MPR members who purchased tickets even before the full lineup was announced. This year’s Rock The Garden included a diverse lineup featuring local hip-hop collective Doomtree, looping-master tUnE yArDs, Duluth favorites Trampled by Turtles, rising stars Howler and the always entertaining The Hold Steady. Overall, the day brought surprisingly decent weather (compared to an all-day forecast of rain), surprise visits into the crowd by artists (thanks Sims) and another well-planned, well-executed event by our friends at the Walker and The Current.
